If you’re preparing your new ecommerce, one of the most important decisions you’ll have to face is the choice of the payment gateway you are going to use so that your customers could easily realize their purchase.

Also, if you already have an online store running, you need to know the characteristics of each payment gateway to improve the usability of your site and, therefore, to provide a good experience to your users. In this way, you will have more opportunities to increase your sales.

It’s an online service that is used so that customers can make their payments securely and with efficiency.

Each payment gateway provides a different user experience, so it is important to have more than one system in the ecommerce to guarantee the satisfaction of users you may have.

The two most important payment gateways are currently PayPal and Stripe. Lately, Amazon Pay has appeared as an alternative to them. It uses an Amazon account to operate and its means of payment to ensure a safe purchase. Anyway, we can’t consider it as an equivalent system, since it is based on the data set used in this selling platform.

This payment gateway system has been running since 1998, although it wasn’t known as PayPal until 2001.

To start using PayPal, we need to open an account that allows us to pay and receive money from another account. It is so popular that it’s integrated in the most of online stores.

If you want to implement this payment gateway in your ecommerce, we recommend you to use a business account. In this way, you will have access to integrations and specific notifications that will become very useful to your business.

Keep in mind that the fee for this service is 3.4% + 35 cent., but it can be lowed if you have a large amount of income.

This payment gateway operation when purchasing is very easy to understand: when the user clicks the purchase button, comes out of the shop and it’s redirected to the PayPal page, where he can pay after logging. Later, he is redirected to your ecommerce once more. This means that the flow of the purchase is broken for a moment, but it’s important to say that it’s a good way to provide payment certainty  to the users. In fact, you only can get the data of the payment cards from its page.

Stripe system is a payment gateway newer than PayPal, and it’s still quite unknown in Spain. Its operation is very similar to PayPal, since users must associate a mail to a card or bank account.

Unlike PayPal, you can’t integrate this system directly on your website, since it doesn’t allow you to create a payment button. You will have to use some plugin or online tools to have Stripe as a payment gateway.

One of the advantages of this payment gateway is that WooCommerce includes a specific module for working with Stripe. So, the customer won’t have to leave your online store to complete the payment. This is always a plus for increasing your sales.

In addition, this payment gateway fees are lower than PayPal ones , and it also can be used as a virtual TPV. Therefore, it will allow your customers to pay with a credit card.

If you have an ecommerce in Prestashop or WooCommerce, keep in mind that there are a lot of WordPress plugins and online tools that ease the integration of both payment gateways in your shop without any problem.
